Chiropractic treatments, while valuable for many patients, carry risks just like any other medical treatment protocol. Chiropractic adjustments can result in stroke, increased pain and worsening of an underlying condition when treatments are provided negligently. As with any other negligently provided medical care, victims of chiropractor malpractice have the legal right to make a claim for compensation based on medical negligence.
Like all medical negligence cases, establishing chiropractor malpractice is complicated—and you need the resources of the best possible lawyer to succeed. Chiropractic services that are provided negligently can form the basis for a chiropractor malpractice claim under New Jersey law. Every day, chiropractors manipulate extremely sensitive and vital areas of the body, such as the spine and neck. When a chiropractor’s services are reckless or negligent, the patient can be left suffering indefinitely.
Chiropractor malpractice can cause the patient to suffer serious injuries, including:

Patients visit chiropractors for a variety of different reasons. Most patients visit to find non-pharmaceutical relief for an underlying issue, such as poor range of motion, headaches or allergies. Victims of chiropractor malpractice, however, may actually leave the chiropractor suffering from a condition that is much more serious than the one they sought to treat.
Like any other medical negligence case, victims of chiropractor malpractice must establish that the chiropractor’s actions caused them to suffer harm. At Team Law, our experienced medical malpractice lawyers will fight to prove:

$5.6 Million Verdict
Team Law’s client fell and dislocated her knee, causing an injury to the popliteal artery that ultimately resulted in the amputation of her leg. Suit was filed against the hospital to which she had been taken by ambulance, the emergency room doctor, a radiologist and an orthopedic surgeon. The orthopedic surgeon claimed he was inordinately delayed getting to the hospital because of traffic problems on the Garden State Parkway. Team Law was able to counter the surgeon’s testimony by obtaining records from the Garden State Parkway that showed no traffic problems and by obtaining the surgeon’s EZ Pass records. The claim against the emergency room doctor was that he should have asked for vascular consultation when he detected a weak pulse in the foot, not just an orthopedic consult. The claim against the radiologist was that his actions also delayed treatment. After a seven week trial, a verdict was entered in favor of Team Law’s client and against all four of those defendants.

Chiropractors often adjust, or manipulate, the sensitive neck area. When the chiropractor uses the wrong type of manipulation, it can cause blood clots to form or cause blockage to the arteries in the neck that connect to the brain. Even if your loved one’s stroke occurred some time after receiving chiropractic treatment, the chiropractor’s actions could have caused the stroke.
Chiropractors have a legal duty to their patients just like any other doctor, nurse or healthcare provider. That duty requires the chiropractor to provide care that is in line with the standard of care in the profession. When your chiropractor provides care that is unreasonable under the circumstances, that care is considered negligent. New Jersey medical malpractice laws provide that chiropractors can be held legally accountable in the same way as any other negligent medical professional for failing to uphold their duties.
