The Mirena IUD lawyers at Team Law are currently representing women who have experienced potentially fatal medical complications resulting from the use of Mirena IUD in possible lawsuits against its manufacturer, New-Jersey based pharmaceutical company Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Mirena IUD is an intrauterine contraceptive device inserted in the uterus by a doctor that is intended to prevent pregnancy for up to five years by releasing a small dose of levonorgestrel, a hormone that prevents sperm from reaching and fertilizing the egg. The device was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2000 as a form of birth control for women who have had at least one child and in 2009 to regulate menstrual bleeding.
Injured Due To A Defective Product And Have Questions? We Can Help, Tell Us What Happened.
Since its inception, some patients have required the Mirena IUD device to be surgically removed after it shifted from its original position and punctured the uterine lining. In 2010, the FDA sent a warning letter to Bayer stating that the manufacturer “overstates the efficacy of Mirena, presents unsubstantiated claims, minimizes the risks of using Mirena, and includes false or misleading presentations regarding Mirena.”
Patients using Mirena IUD have reported incidents of irregular bleeding, abdominal pain, nausea, headaches, anxiety, back pain, weight gain, breast pain and tenderness, acne, decreased libido and depression. Serious side effects associated with the intrauterine device include:
In extreme cases, these complications have required victims to undergo hysterectomy or even resulted in death.
The lawyers at Team Law fully understand the legal rights of those who have suffered from Mirena IUD complications and can help determine if you have a case against the manufacturer. If you or someone you know has had a Mirena IUD device surgically removed as a result of migration and consequent uterine perforation, email us here or call 1-800-TEAM-LAW.
